I needed something positive and figured you did, too.
Good morning, fam.
Let’s be honest… there’s been a shit ton of bad, well, shit.
I know for many of us this overwhelming rolling dumpster fire has left us feeling like we literally can’t make art or that it feels wrong to make art when the world is burning around us and the people we love.
I get it. I promise I do. And I’m going to tell you what I always tell you, if you follow me on socials:
Art not only heals, it’s an act of rebellion.
There is no better time to be an artist than right now. You can channel all those big emotions into work that will help you get through this and from that labor, the blood, sweat and tears, will bring hope to those who need it.
But please do not feel obligated to force it, if you can’t make art organically. There’s no one ‘right’ path for all of us.

In that vein, I ended up drawing these three pieces last week.
Let’s talk about them.
Based on an old design, I updated this swirl as a motivational post. While I started with ‘I’ statements, I did move to ‘you’ statement as a way to show our connection as a community.
This design is unfinished, but I like the concept. If you’ve been a reader since you were a kid, or you’re a parent, then you probably recognize the format I have here. Meant to be concurrent with the quote on the page, my intent was one of those flipbooks that let you build a whole new character. I need to redraw it, because I do think the idea has merit.
I really like this idea. Some of the lines are wonky, but considering I freehanded this, I’m not sad at it. I need to turn it into a digital piece to fix those lines. I think the message is a good one and relevant to my communities. Which is a point of my art anyway.
Stay tuned! So many more art to come every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Thanks again for being here and checking out my work! Posting here feels better for my sanity, if I’m honest. It lets me better express what my process and thoughts are behind each piece.
Until next time!
